This year’s line up for Wireless was insane. Amongst the US stars were an abundance of UK rap artists which solidifies how much UK rap keeps on climbing. Over the course of three days, performances were seen by the likes of Stormzy, Giggs, Mo Stack, Mist, Not3s and a shed load more. US artists consisted of Post Malone, Migos, and Rae Sremmurd.
The event was sold out within minutes of tickets being released and was set to be the best yet.
Sunday’s headliner DJ Khaled cancelled his performance at the last minute, however, when it was discovered that Drake was replacing him, suddenly we asked ourselves: “DJ Khaled who??!”
Rumour has it that DJ Khaled had pulled out months ago but his name firmly remained on the line up. Several other artists had cancelled including Cardi B due to her pregnancy and Fredo for unknown reasons. Hours before Khaled’s performance, he posted a holiday snap on IG of himself chilling in a pool, captioned: ‘Still on vacation!’. Despite having never performed in the UK, the no.1 US hype man had other priorities. But the man himself, Drizzy, did not disappoint. With his love for the UK he came out strong with Giggs and the entire place lost their shit!

Giggs set pace by getting the crowd hyped, pulling out all the bangers – old and new, before finishing off with ‘KMT’. When the stage graphics suddenly displayed the OVO logo, the realisation set in that the rumours were indeed 100% true – Drake was about to roll through! 1000’s of people began running towards the main stage, even abandoning Lil Pump who was performing at another stage.
‘KMT’ was pulled up to enable Drake to perform it with ‘Hollowman’. Drizzy then continued to blow the crowd away with tracks such as, ‘I’m Upset’, ‘God’s Plan’ and ‘Nice for What’.
Sadly, Drake was not on stage for as long as we’d hoped. He even told fans he wished he could have stayed longer, and cheekily made reference to DJ Khaled’s absence.
With the diabological heatwave surging over the country as well as ‘World Cup fever’, Drake’s performance was definitely the icing on the cake!
